Studio-one week project

My topic is ‘speaking in tongues’, the definition from Google is a form of glossolalia in which a person experiencing religious ecstasy utters incomprehensible sounds that the speaker believes are a language spoken through him or her by a deity. However when I chose the topic I thought it was kind of weird tongues that could really speak without throat, so I got a fun image in my head and I couldn’t get rid of it. The idea was a GIF that is doing a circle, a person says something and as the camera zoom in on the tongue, a small creature shows up, it’s the bacteria from the mouth, it might be working or just living in that person’s mouth, and it opens its mouth, zoom in, another type of bacteria in its mouth and so on. I did some research and made up the characters firs, that was the fun part and I always enjoying this bit. I then got back to the mind map I draw at the beginning, I analyzed few possibility for the outcomes and materials. I was trying to use them all, but after I finished the GIF I thought that wasn’t good enough so I stayed up late in order to get the poster done to see if that’s better. I barely made posters so I believed that was a brilliant chance to practice. Although it wasn’t came out as effective as I expected but I was quite satisfied, not only because we just got 24 hours to finished the work, but also I have tried my best and I know I would be better.

Here are some developments of bacterias that I drew.

Reflection-

Firstly I got really vexatious because the timing, on the other hand, it’s a challenge for me, and I got so excited about it. Sometimes, people can get more ideas when they are stress or under pressure.

I found I could be more concentrate while I was doing character design. That’s was really interested me. Those characters, I personally love them and I think it went well. Whereas, I didn’t keen on the GIF, it’s not like what I had in mind. My classmates prefer the GIF work though, so I think it isn’t that bad.

Though this project I started to get familiar with school and I figured out how to print images in USB. To be honest, I didn’t learned much in technical area, for the final work I still used the skills that I have known. I hope for the next project I could get chance to explore more methods of drawing.

My practice really challenged my timing and unfamiliar of new school, I spent more time to do one thing, for example, I needed to print images so I got there half an hour before the class start but since I wasn’t familiar with printer, I didn’t totally finish when the lesson started. Also at the brief we got 22 topics to choose and that made me struggle…

All in all, I am looking forward for the next task!
